FundationsFundations is a research based program used in grades K-3 that helps give students the phonetics basics to begin literacy. This program has multiple, sequential lessons that build upon each year it is continuously taught. Topics covered in the program include letter formation and sounds, phonological and phonemic awareness. Other topics include vocabulary, irregular words, fluency, comprehension and writing. Read NaturallyIntroduction to Read Naturally Read Naturally is a program that focuses on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. The students that are working on this program may have transferred into the district and have never been exposed to phonemic awareness or phonics and therefore do not have the skills needed to be a confident reader in second grade and beyond. The basis of this program is teacher modeling, repeating and frequent monitoring of the progress of the student. Teachers model proper, correct reading skills so that students can understand what it sounds like but they will read as well to understand fluency. Students will repeat read a story multiple times to improve fluency, vocabulary and word structure. The daily monitoring of students throughout the program helps students grow confidence as a reader. Confidence is instilled in the student as they progress through the program.
